Prepping Your Home For Holiday Guests

Like myself, you may have guests coming over for the holidays. Weather they are just dropping by for the day or staying overnight here are a few easy things you can do to make your home safe and comfortable for them to visit.

Entrance

  • Although we do not have snow yet this year, there is always a chance. Be prepared with ice melt and snow shovels to keep your entrance walkways clear and safe for your guests to enter.
  • Make sure to replace any burned out light bulbs at your exterior lights and be sure to turn them on so that your guests can see their way in and out of your home.
  • Dedicate a place in your home for warm weather clothing and boots. Possibly an extra doormat for boots and extra hangers for those bulky jackets. This can keep your entryway clear and clutter free.

Bathrooms

  • Now is a great opportunity to upgrade your bathroom fan if needed. With your bathroom getting more use, ventilation is a big part of keeping your bathroom clean and moisture free.
  • Be sure to put out some extra guest and hand towels for your guests to use.

Kitchen

  • The kitchen is likely where most of your entertaining or gathering will happen around the holidays. This is a great time to clean all of your appliance or if needed replace some of them to cook all those delicious meals you will share.
  • It may also be a good idea to bring in some extra chairs so everyone has a place to sit or a small island to help hold all the food.

Guest Rooms

  • Take a few minutes to place fresh linens on the guest beds. There is nothing like getting into bed with freshly cleaned sheets.
  • Do yo have an extra reading lamp or clock that you can place next to the bed? Not everyone has the same sleep schedule and these couple of items can allow them some space without disrupting your families schedule.

If you are like me you run around frantic the few days before guests arrive cleaning and scrubbing to make your home look presentable. Ultimately I am left stressed out and too tired to enjoy the event. So, as I remind myself every year I will do the same with you, please don’t forget to take a minute to relax and enjoy this time. Your friends and family are there to see you, not to judge the cleanliness of your home. Have a great Holiday Season!

With Care –
